Confused founder with arms crossed

Premium Clients Don't Desire "Easy" (And It's Why You're Accidentally Repelling Them)

September 17, 2026•5 min read

There's a fine line between making things easy for your ideal client ... and making them too easy.

If you've been in the online space for any length of time, you've heard the advice on repeat: simplify your funnel, simplify your steps, make it effortless for people to say yes. And on the surface, that sounds right. But if you're consistently attracting inquiries and booked calls that aren't aligned with your premium offer, I want to offer you a different diagnosis: you haven't made things too hard. You've made them too easy.

I'm Esther, founder of CottnOwl. Before stepping into this space over four years ago, I spent my career inside a Fortune 500 finance role, working exclusively in sales and marketing with ultra-high-net-worth families and celebrities. That background shaped everything about how I now think about selling premium, high-ticket offers - and it's exactly why this distinction matters so much to me.

The Client You Actually Want Is Not New to This

Here's the truth about the client you're trying to attract at $5,000, $15,000, $25,000, or $35,000: they are not new to making decisions. They know how to press play on a video. They know how to click a button to book a call. They know how to open an email and reply to a text.

And yet, so much of the industry operates as though that client needs to be coddled through the journey - flashing buttons, aggressive countdown timers, scarcity language stacked on scarcity language, everything moving and skewing to visually shout act now. This isn't guidance. It's noise. And noise is not what a premium buyer is looking for.

If anything, it signals the opposite of what you want to convey. It reads as cheap. Low integrity. Beneath the caliber of the work you actually do.

Why These Tactics Work at $47 ... and Fail at $35,000

To be clear, these tactics aren't universally wrong. They work well for lower-ticket offers, because the buyer behavior at $47 is fundamentally different from the buyer behavior at $35,000.

A premium client - someone who has the funds available, who is ready to invest, who is actively searching for the right coach, consultant, or service provider - isn't seeking flashing calls to action. They're seeking clarity.

They already know how to move through a checkout flow. What they want to know is simple: what is the next right step, and can I trust the person guiding me there?

So the invitation here is to audit your own strategy. Look at what you currently have in place and ask honestly: is there something in here that's unintentionally repelling the very clients I want to work with?

Easy to Navigate. Not Easy to Manipulate.

To be clear, this isn't about making your client journey more complicated.

We absolutely want the client journey to be seamless. Buttons should be unmistakably clear. If the next step is booking a call, the copy should say exactly that. If it's watching a video, the play action should be obvious. A slow-loading page or a broken link will cost you a premium client just as quickly as an oversold headline will - friction of that kind has no place in a high-ticket funnel.

The distinction is this: easy to navigate is not the same as easy to manufacture urgency around. One respects the client's time and intelligence. The other tries to override their judgment.

When Scarcity Is Real - And When It Isn't

Scarcity and urgency aren't inherently the enemy. They work - but only when they're true.

If you're a coach who genuinely only takes on ten clients a month, say that. If you're a service provider - a CPA, for instance - who genuinely has one opening before the next intake window, that belongs on the page. That's real scarcity, and it deserves to be communicated clearly.

What doesn't belong on the page is anything manufactured. And here's what I can tell you, speaking now as a premium buyer myself: we know the difference.

Having invested over $300,000 across the past four years into mentors and agencies to build out organic client acquisition strategies, I've learned exactly what to look for on a sales call before deciding whether to invest. When something feels engineered rather than earned, the trust breaks immediately - because if there isn't transparency on the front end of the relationship, there's little reason to believe there will be transparency once someone is inside the program.

What Actually Moves a Premium Client to Say Yes

This applies whether you're building a webinar, a challenge, a video sales letter, or simply directing someone into a DM conversation. The through-line is the same: say what is factual, and let the full value of your offer speak for itself.

Because here's the closing truth of it - at the premium level, scarcity is never what makes someone say yes.

No one is investing $35,000 because there's "one spot left." They're asking something entirely different: Can you actually help me? Can you deliver in the timeframe you're promising? Are you the person - the founder, the expert, the authority - capable of doing what you say you can do?

That's where your messaging, your copy, your presence on camera, and your conviction all come together to attract the right client. It is never the flashing button. If anything, at this price point, the flashing button is the very thing doing the repelling.
